...KISS guitarist ACE FREHLEY is a featured player on GO-GO?s bassist KATHY VALENTINE?s upcoming solo debut, Light Years, due for release on September 6th.
Other guests on the release include guitarist Gilby Clarke (GUNS N? ROSES), drummer Clem Burke (BLONDIE) and drummer Pete Thomas (ELVIS COSTELLO AND THE ATTRACTIONS).

...The promoter involved in London's Live8 concert has a problem - too many groups want to be involved in the humanitarian effort.
Harvey Goldsmith told the Mirror that he has turned down 65 bands, including MOTLEY CRUE and MEATLOAF.
OZZY OSBOURNE, who played at the Live Aid concert in 1985, and the SPICE GIRLS, turned down by promoter Bob Geldof, the event's main mover, could still make the cut.
"This never happened for Live Aid - it was the opposite," Goldsmith said.
The concert set for Hyde Park July 2 with simultaneous events in cities around the world has become mired in controversy. Geldof has come under fire for failing to invite black and African groups and has noisily criticized winners of free tickets who have been trying to sell them online.
Goldsmith told the Mirror that selling 1,000 tickets to corporate sponsors was probably a mistake, given the flap over online auction sales. But he said that organizers were unsure at first if concert costs would be covered.

...The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas is planning to establish the Annie and Willie Nelson Professorship in Stem Cell Research. An official announcement is planned later this week, a university official said.
"That's a nice thing," Nelson told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "I think everybody should do what they can to call more attention to that."
Nelson and his wife received the honor for helping to raise about $250,000 for the stem cell program at a March 4 concert in Grand Prairie, the Austin American-Statesman reported in Saturday's editions.
The first Nelson professor will be Dr. Eric Olson, who chairs the medical center's molecular biology department. He described the honor as "pretty cool."
The year-old program isn't now researching embryonic stem cells, a source of controversy.
Olson said the school focuses on mouse stem cells to learn more about stem cells and "how their properties can be exploited to treat human diseases."

...Last month, Billy Corgan scoffed at the notion of his former band, the Smashing Pumpkins, ever reconciling and regrouping.
"You won't see the four Smashing Pumpkins onstage again," he told MTV News
In a full-page advertisement in the Tuesday (June 21) morning edition of his hometown newspaper, the Chicago Tribune, the alt-rock leader declared his plans to bring back the band.
"For a year now, I have walked around with a secret, a secret I chose to keep," the ad ? signed "Rock on and may God bless you! Billy Corgan" ? reads. "But now I want you to be among the first to know that I have made plans to renew and revive the Smashing Pumpkins. I want my band back, and my songs, and my dreams."

...Paris Hilton is going for an '80s sound on her upcoming album, and she's got former Go-Go's guitarist Jane Wiedlin aboard to help her do it. The "Surreal Life" star told the Advocate (June issue) that the hotel heiress "has no attitude whatsoever" and "takes direction well." "I'm just happy to be of service," Wiedlin told the magazine. "I was so excited they offered me the job. I mean, come on, it's Paris Hilton!" ...

...Cee-Lo and Sean Lennon are among the guests on Esthero's new album, Wikked Lil' Grrrls, due June 28. The Canadian singer will promote the album with a tour kicking July off 2 in Seattle and wrapping up July 31 in Detroit. ...

...News of the World reports that the Sex Pistols will be reuniting to perform at Live 8 after Johnny Rotten finally agreed to do the show his bandmates immediately agreed to. "The others said 'Yes' straight away but Johnny took his time," a source said. "He knew the rest of the band had given the reunion the green light so in the end he agreed."
Live 8 organisers have been in touch with the remaining members of the band for the past fortnight in a bid to get the Seventies legends on the bill.

...Today on KROQ/Los Angeles' Kevin & Bean morning show, the popular duo hosted a fundraiser for KROQ legend Rodney Bingenheimer to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
For those of you that may not already know, Bingenheimer is world famous for debuting bands who have catapulted to super-star status and whose music has influenced most of the Modern Rock bands of today.
The $15,000 needed to apply for the the star was quickly raised, now all that remains is the approval of the Walk Of Fame Selection Committee, headed up by honorary Hollywood Mayor and committee Chairman Johnny Grant.
Many celebrities and musicians lent their support by making appearances on the show, including guests Fabrizio Moretti of The Strokes, Adrian Young of No Doubt, Deborah Harry of Blondie, John Doe of X, Greg Graffin of Bad Religion, Damon Albarn of Blur, Joan Jett, Chris Carter, Sam Nelson, Kathy Valentine of The Go-Gos and Pat O'Brien, who called in with a donation.
The outpouring of support by celebrities, record labels and artist managers was a "real testament to how many people know, love and appreciate what Rodney has done for Modern Rock," KROQ Marketing and Promotions Director Amy Stevens told FMQB.

According to Billboard.com, Rhino has set an August 16 release date for THE RAMONES box set, "Weird Tales of the Ramones", featuring 85 tracks onto three discs of music and the DVD debut of "Lifestyles of the Ramones". Originally issued in 1990, the latter rounds up the band's complete Sire music video collection, bolstered by six clips the RAMONES made during their run on the MCA-affiliated Radioactive label.
The box will also include a comic book featuring the work of 25 top graphic novel/comic artists

...VH1's "Meet the Family: The Sniders" special, which follows notorious TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider as he prepares to embark on a reunion tour, will premiere on Saturday, June 25 at 9:00 p.m.
"Meet The Family: The Sniders" offers a glimpse of suburban home life with a twist: it's told through the eyes of the family of hard rocker Dee Snider. Dee is going back on the road with his band, TWISTED SISTER, and this time his wife and four children are coming along for the ride.

... MTV and VH1 will telecast eight hours of the Live 8 concerts on July 2, the networks said Wednesday. The performances, are being held in eight cities to raise awareness of poverty in Africa.
The telecast is a repeat performance for MTV, which showed the Live Aid concerts two decades ago. Like Live Aid, the Live 8 performances are being organized by Bob Geldof.
America Online, which owns the U.S. rights to the concerts and will beam them on the Internet, is also negotiating with ABC for a prime-time telecast on July 2 following the cable TV coverage.
MTV, VH1 and MTV's college network mtvU will be on the air with the same feed from noon to 8 p.m. EDT that day, switching back and forth from different sites and also presenting packaged reports, like a look back at Live Aid.
Related networks CMT and VH1 Classic will air concert highlights the next day featuring artists geared to their audiences.
It will be the longest period MTV has gone live to cover an event since Woodstock '99, the network said.

...Though Fiona Apple's shelved third album Extraordinary Machine leaked onto the Internet earlier this year, it looks like she is abandoning the album and starting from scratch. MTV.com reports that Apple is in the studio again, working on new material with producer Brian Kehew

...Ted Nugent has reached a support agreement with the Dover woman he fathered a child with in 1995.
Nugent will pay Karen Gutowski $3,500 monthly in child support, and she will have sole custody of their son, now 10, under the agreement.
The court has not set out visitation rights, but the agreement allows Nugent visitation under conditions the mother deems appropriate. Nugent, who never made an appearance at Strafford County Superior Court for the proceedings, still will have the right to the child's school, health care and other records.
the child was born in April, 1995, after Gutowski and Nugent had a "brief relationship" related to Nugent's music, Gutowski's attorney has said. Gutowski sued Nugent for child support and legal custody in 2003. He was served with papers informing him of the suit Sept. 5 when he played at the Meadowbrook Amphitheater in Gilford with ZZ TOP.
Nugent acknowledged earlier in the case that he is the father and paid "minimal" support but has never met the boy.
Nugent has been married to his wife, Shemane Nugent, since 1989. The couple lives in Michigan and has two sons and two daughters. Nugent has been named Father of the Year at his children's school

...ASH narrowly escaped disaster when their tour bus burst into flames following a recent gig in LOS ANGELES.
The band had finished a storming set at the city?s Knitting Factory and were travelling to San Francisco for their gig the following night at the Shoreland Amphitheatre when they were awoken by their sound man yelling as the vehicle began to fill up with smoke.
After putting out the burning engine with an onboard fire extinguisher, Ash were forced to wait by the side of the road at 4am to wait for a new bus to pick them up.

...A Lexington woman who says she was jilted by a-WLTO-102.5 FM contest filed a lawsuit yesterday against Cumulus Media Inc., which owns Hot 102 and four other local stations.
The complaint, filed in Fayette Circuit Court, says the radio station and its Atlanta-based parent company breached a contract to pay $100,000 after a radio contest prize was revealed to be a caramel-filled candy bar, Nestle's 100 Grand, instead of cash.

...Lil' Kim had been expected to appear in court Friday morning (June 24) in New York for sentencing, but the hearing has been bumped back to July 6. The Queen Bee was convicted on March 17 of perjury and conspiracy, for lying to investigators and to a federal grand jury about her involvement in a shooting four years ago at New York hip-hop station Hot 97.

...Velvet Revolver recently teamed with veteran video director Wayne Isham to shoot a clip for "Come on Come In," the first single from the "Fantastic Four" soundtrack, due July 5. The video combines performance footage and movie clips with Dali-esque abstract portraits of each bandmember.

...Stooges fans who couldn't bear making it through the overwhelming seven-disc 1970: The Complete Fun House Sessions box set from 2000 can breathe a sigh of relief. A more manageable two-disc deluxe version of their 1970 album, and a similar reissue of the Stooges' self-titled 1969 debut will be available from Rhino on August 16. Expanded and remastered, The Stooges features 10 previously unreleased tracks, and Fun House culls 14 tracks from the aforementioned out-of-print collection.

...Brian May has let the cat out of the bag on his Web site: A contemporary Queen covers disc, Killer Queen: A Tribute to Queen, will be released by Hollywood Records on August 2. While a spokesperson for the label said some artists are still being confirmed for the final track list, artists who have recorded songs already include the Flaming Lips ("Bohemian Rhapsody"), Eleven featuring Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme ("Stone Cold Crazy"), Gavin DeGraw ("We Are the Champions") and Sum 41 ("Killer Queen"). ...Canadian singer Avril Lavigne is reportedly marrying a fellow songsmith.
Us Weekly says the 20-year-old is engaged to marry Deryck Whibley, the frontman for the punk-pop group Sum 41.
Lavigne, 20, began dating the 25-year-old musician in early 2004. They had been friends for several years before that, the magazine said.
Whibley and Lavigne both hail from the same province in Canada ? Ontario ? and reportedly bought a home together in Los Angeles last year.
Us Weekly reported that Whibley proposed over the weekend while Lavigne was finishing up the European leg of her tour. Publicists for both musicians confirmed the engagement to the magazine.

...Eminem will be donating money to save a beloved fireworks display in his hometown of Detroit. "The fireworks are a big part of summertime in Detroit, and I want to support them and the mayor," the rapper said in a statement obtained by The Associated Press. "I've come downtown to watch them since I was a kid, and I'll get involved in something that helps the city in any way I can." This year's show was in danger of being canceled by the city's mayor due to insufficient funds to provide adequate security during the event.

...Mariah Carey has revealed she is on a strict diet so she looks her best for Live 8.
Mariah is due to perform at the London Live 8 concert on Saturday.
She said: "This is such a special event for me. I want to sing my best and look my best.

...Nick Carter was fined $1,200 and ordered to attend a three-month alcohol rehab program on Tuesday, following a change in his plea last week from not guilty to guilty for driving under the influence on March 5 in Huntington Beach, California.

...Pink, Gwen Stefani, Velvet Revolver, Kelly Osbourne, Steven Tyler and several others are now going to have to wait until the holidays for the work they did on an all-star tsunami benefit single to be heard. "Tears in Heaven" has been pushed back for a Christmas release. December 26 is the one-year anniversary of the disaster

...A bunch of bands who got their start at CBGB are planning a series of benefit concerts in August in a last-ditch effort to save the 31-year-old New York punk venue. The dingy club is mounting a monthlong "Save CBGB" campaign to raise support and pressure the building's owner to renew its lease. Among the acts who will perform from July 31 to August 31 are Living Colour, Sick of It All, Liars, Circle Jerks, Gov't Mule's Warren Haynes, Gorilla Biscuits and '70s punk legends the Dead Boys, who will re-form for the final time at their favorite haunt. ...Bono wants his hat back. And his earrings. His sweat shirt, too. Dublin-based rock band U2 went to court Tuesday to recover items from former stylist Lola Cashman, who has a range of memorabilia from her work on their 1987 Joshua Tree world tour.
In 2002, Cashman tried to sell some of the items ? including a cowboy hat, sweat shirt, pants and earrings worn by Bono ? at a London auction house. U2's lawyers stopped the sale by telling auctioneers the goods weren't Cashman's to sell.
On Tuesday, lawyer Paul Sreenan told Dublin Circuit Court Judge Matthew Deery that Bono and other members of U2 would testify that they hadn't given any of the items to Cashman, who was also accused of claiming inappropriate expenses during the tour.
Sreenan said the band hoped the judge would issue a judgment that Cashman should not continue to possess or try to sell any of the materials in dispute, including about 200 photos of the tour.

...Franz Ferdinand say the band's second album will have the same title and cover as their first.
And all future albums by the band will have the same name - Franz Ferdinand.
The band told the NME the albums would be distinguishable only by their colour schemes.
The new album, due in September, will have a black, red and pale green cover so fans can tell it from their dark brown, orange and cream debut.
Singer Alex Kapranos explained: "The whole point is that the album doesn't have a title.
"We decided quite a while ago that we didn't want to give any of the albums titles, they were just going to be called Franz Ferdinand.
"The albums are going to be identified by their colour schemes rather than a title. The contrast of different colours creates a different mood.

...Bob Dylan is to release rare material from his early years via an exclusive deal with Starbucks.
Dylan: Live at the Gaslight 1962 will be released on August 30 on a CD only available via the coffee chain's outlets.
Recorded at New York's Gaslight Cafe in October 1962, the ten tracks have long been rated by collectors as among his finest early recordings.
They include a version of the just-written A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall and what is believed to be the first-ever performance of Don't Think Twice It's Alright.
The release follows exclusive CD deals between Starbucks and several other artists, including Alanis Morissette and Joni Mitchell.
At the same time, Sony-BMG will release No Direction Home as volume seven in the label's Official Bootleg series, featuring previously unreleased 60s material.

MTV News reports that Audioslave have filed an intellectual-property lawsuit against Miller Brewing Company, claiming the company failed to consult the band about using the Audioslave name in an ad celebrating 50 years of rock and roll, which ran in the September 30 issue of Rolling Stone. "Audioslave does not permit its name, image or identity to be used in commercial advertising, other than advertising for [the band's] record albums, concert tours and related matters," the suit reads. "In particular, Audioslave does not endorse commercial products, including alcoholic beverages, and does not agree to appear in advertisements for alcoholic beverages ... [since] members of [the group] have had issues with alcohol and the band is completely opposed to the use of its name to advertise and promote alcoholic beverage companies and products."

The R&B singer, known for such hits as "Don't Want to Be a Fool" and "Here and Now," died Friday afternoon in Edison, New Jersey, of complications from his 2003 stroke. Details on the exact cause of death have not been released.

...Geffen Records has set a November 29, 2005 release date for the long-awaited GUNS N' ROSES album, "Chinese Democracy".

...Two stablehands for ROLLING STONES rocker CHARLIE WATTS have been found dead in mysterious circumstances near the drummer's English country farm.
NORBERT BEDNOSKY, 26, and KRYSZTOF KWIECHIEN, 41, were discovered drowned in a pond a few miles away from Watt's stud farm in Torrington, Devon.
Police report the men were last seen on Sunday evening (26JUN05) while riding two horses through the nearby Elder Park.
Officers believe the pair stopped at the pond to cool the horses and decided to have a swim. Fellow employees from Watts' farm found the horses tied to a tree next to the pond and called police.
The bodies were found on Tuesday (28JUN05). Devonshire police have not ruled out foul play.

...Newsday is reporting that a member of the **** 's Angels has filed a federal lawsuit claiming he was dragged behind a curtain during a KID ROCK concert and beaten by four Albany police officers who taunted him about his motorcycle club jacket.
The alleged beating suffered by David Lust, 43, of Herkimer County, took place Sept. 5 during a KID ROCK concert at Albany's Pepsi Arena.
